Concert series in the Renaissance castle on the Danube, from bassoon quartet to open air
Schloss Höchstädt on the Danube is one of the most important Renaissance castles in Bavarian Swabia. Since its opening as a cultural centre by the Bezirk Schwaben, the venue has combined exhibitions, regional history, and a high-quality concert programme. Höchstädt is located in the district of Dillingen on the Danube in the state of Bavaria and is easily accessible via the Danube valley.
The 2026 programme spans a wide range. In May, the multi-award-winning bassoon quartet 'Fagotti Parlandi' will perform in the Knights' Hall with a programme full of entertainment and fine humour. In June, 'Bona goes Pop' follows, a young, family-friendly concert by the St. Bonaventura Gymnasium Dillingen. The highlight is the open-air concert by the Ensemble Classique 'From Renaissance to Bernstein' in the atmospheric castle courtyard. In October, Julia Rinderle will conclude the season with 'Hidden Treasures' – a programme that shines a spotlight on works by female composers.
In keeping with the cultural annual theme 'Sound of Schwaben', Höchstädt transforms into Pop.Kulturschloss in 2026. An accompanying exhibition explores pop music from the last five decades, bridging the gap between classical concert life and popular music culture. Thus, the Renaissance castle becomes a vibrant place where tradition and the present meet.
Whether in the historic Knights' Hall or under the open sky in the castle courtyard – the concerts organised by the Bezirk Schwaben combine musical quality with the special ambiance of one of the region's most beautiful castles. A worthwhile excursion destination for culture and music lovers in the Danube region.
Four concerts mark the 2026 season: The opening is on May 23rd with the bassoon quartet 'Fagotti Parlandi' in the Knights' Hall. On June 16th, 'Bona goes Pop' follows, presented by the St. Bonaventura Gymnasium Dillingen. The highlight is the open-air concert by Ensemble Classique 'From Renaissance to Bernstein' on June 27th in the castle courtyard (in case of bad weather, it will be moved to the Knights' Hall). The season concludes on October 17th with Julia Rinderle performing 'Hidden Treasures'. Accompanying this, Pop.Kulturschloss will host an exhibition on pop music from the last five decades.
