Schützenfest of the oldest marksmen's guild in Koblenz – founded 1359
The Koblenzer Schützengesellschaft 1359 e.V. (KSG) is the oldest marksmen's guild in the city of Koblenz and, with its founding year of 1359, one of the oldest marksmen's associations in Germany. More than 660 years of club tradition make the KSG a living part of the city's history and identity.
In the 14th century, citizens' militias organised themselves in many German cities as marksmen's guilds – partly for the defence of the cities, and partly as social communities for the upper bourgeoisie. The KSG Koblenz is part of this European tradition. Over the centuries, the originally military character has changed: today, the focus is on sport shooting with air rifles and small-bore rifles, the preservation of customs, and social club life.
The annual Schützenfest is the highlight of the club year. It follows the classic dramaturgy: Assembly of the marksmen in uniform, King's Shoot to determine the new marksmen's majesty, a ceremonial Proclamation, a Festive Parade through the city area, and a Marquee Operation with catering, live music, and dancing. The exact schedule and, in particular, the location will be communicated by the association in advance.
A special feature of the KSG is the preservation of historical uniforms and ceremonies. At festive occasions, the association appears in traditional costumes reminiscent of the medieval citizens' militias – with feathered hats, sashes, sabres, and magnificent shooting chains. This makes the KSG not only a sports association but also a cultural carrier.
Beyond the Schützenfest, the KSG offers training, competitions at club, district, and state levels, youth development, and social events. New members are welcome; training sessions take place regularly at the association's own shooting range.
The 2026 Schützenfest of the KSG 1359 will take place this year, as every year, in the summer at the club grounds. The exact date will be published by the organiser in advance on koblenzer-sg.de. The structure will follow the proven key points of previous years, which apply to most German Schützenfeste.
