Techno, Workshop, and Utopia Festival in the Franconian Switzerland
The Klangtherapie Festival is one of the most important independent workshop and techno festivals in Southern Germany. Since 2003 (according to the organizers, "for over 20 years"), a community of around 7,000 visitors has gathered at the beginning of August on the "Feld der Ehre" (Field of Honor) – a 20-hectare clearing and meadow area in Scherleithen near Plankenfels, in the heart of the Franconian Switzerland, District of Bayreuth, Bavaria.
The festival follows the famous Fusion Festival motto: "Four Days Techno • Love • Utopia." Unlike commercial large festivals, it sees itself as a political-utopian experiment: no sponsorship by spirit brands, supported by, among others, the Bundeskulturfond (Federal Cultural Foundation), with solidarity tickets, reduced tickets for low-income individuals, and an active volunteer program.
Over 100 international and national DJs and live acts perform on five stages. The spectrum includes:
During the day, the festival shifts to the workshop area: yoga, meditation, breathwork, dance, improv theater, Ecstatic Dance, awareness training, queer-feminist discussion rounds, political education, singing bowls, massage, arts and crafts. A dedicated wellness area with a sauna, as well as a separate family area with children's programming, complete the concept.
The Klangtherapie Festival implements active awareness structures: trained staff, safer spaces, anonymous drug checking information, and a clear anti-discrimination policy. Through the solidarity ticket system (€200), higher-income guests finance reduced minimal tickets (€125) for those with less money.
Plankenfels is a municipality of 1,200 inhabitants in the district of Bayreuth, located in the middle of the castle and rock landscape of the Franconian Switzerland. The festival grounds are on the outskirts of the village, surrounded by forests and meadows. Those arriving early can use the region for hiking and climbing (Wiesenttal, Pottenstein).
The Klangtherapie Festival 2026 takes place from August 6 to 10, 2026, on the 20-hectare Feld der Ehre in Scherleithen near Plankenfels. Four full days of festival programming between techno, consciousness culture, and utopia.
The five stages include techno and tech-house main stages, trance/psytrance floors, a drum & bass area, and downtempo/ambient zones. The extensive workshop program offers over 70 sessions ranging from yoga and meditation to queer-feminist discussions and awareness training. Tickets start at Phase 1 for €170 (standard), €125 (minimal ticket for low-income individuals), or €200 (solidarity ticket).
