A Premiere for Borkum and the GKA

By including Borkum in the GKA Kite World Tour calendar, the island will host a sports event of international appeal in 2026. With its location in the North Sea, consistent wind, wide beach, and existing water sports infrastructure, Borkum is a prime spot for top-class kiteboarding. The event area stretches for about 300 meters directly at the North Sea resort.

Sporting Framework

The focus is on the Freestyle Kiteboarding discipline. The world's best athletes on the GKA Kite World Tour will compete against each other in several rounds, with jumps, tricks, and combinations being judged. A total of 25,000 Euros in prize money is available for the winners. The schedule, heats, and final rounds will be flexibly determined by the organizers depending on wind conditions.

Family Program and Supporting Activities

In addition to the competitions, the event offers a supporting program with yoga sessions on the beach, family activities, and opportunities to meet the athletes. The event area is accessible free of charge, making it a summer destination for Borkum holidaymakers.

The island is accessible via ferries from Emden outer harbor; during high season, several ferry connections operate daily.
