Four Days of Westerwald Kirmes

The Kirmes Ehlscheid is one of the traditional autumn Kirmes weekends in the Westerwald. It is held at the Heimathalle, the central event venue of the high-altitude community. The Bürgerverein Ehlscheid (BVE), together with the Maimädchen, takes care of the organization, ensuring a program that is shaped by volunteers and gives small village Kirmes festivals their special charm.

Bürgerverein and Maimädchen as Pillars

For decades, the BVE has been the driving force behind the village's event culture in Ehlscheid. Together with the Maimädchen – a group of young women rooted in many Westerwald villages who uphold traditions like the May festival (Maifest) – they organize the Kirmes as an intergenerational celebration. This collaboration is typical for the region and guarantees a program that appeals to both older and younger generations.

Heimathalle as the Center

The Heimathalle in Ehlscheid provides the spatial facilities for the various program points: festival evenings with live music or a DJ, Frühschoppen on Sunday, traditional dance events, and culinary offerings. The entire weekend is designed as a meeting place for the residents of Ehlscheid, the surrounding high-altitude communities, and guests from the Rengsdorf-Waldbreitbach municipal association.

The Kirmes is a reliable date in the Westerwald event calendar, following the rhythm of village and Kirchweih (church consecration festival) celebrations that mark the autumn peak of rural festival culture in September and October. In the 2026 event calendar, it is listed as one of the central events organized by Ehlscheid's associations.
