Largest Kirmes in the Ahr district with barrel tapping and grand fireworks on Tuesday
For generations, the Kirmes Bad Neuenahr has been the largest Volksfest (public festival) in the Ahr district and a central date in the region's autumn calendar. For five days, the central City-Ost parking lot transforms into a festival mile where carousels, roller-coaster-like rides, classic Kirmes (funfair) stalls, and food stands are packed closely together. With thousands of visitors per day, it ranks among the largest Volksfests in the north of Rhineland-Palatinate.
The Kirmes traditionally opens on Friday with the barrel tapping ceremony by the incumbent mayor. Accompanied by a festive speech and musical accompaniment, this moment marks the official start of the festival. In the following days, the program runs in full swing, with numerous special events for families, groups, and young people.
The dramatic highlight is the grand fireworks display on Tuesday evening at 9:30 PM. It illuminates the entire festival grounds and can be seen from many points in the city center. The combination of a Volksfest and a festive closing fireworks display makes Tuesday evening the busiest day of the entire festival week.
The Kirmes is deliberately designed to be family-friendly. In addition to the large rides for teenagers and adults, there are numerous children's rides, game booths with plush toys as prizes, and a wide range of food options. Families, seniors, young people, and club groups meet at the Kirmes as a common meeting point for the city.
The program includes numerous family activities, special hours, and club presentations. The exact opening hours of the rides and special events will be published in advance at ahrtal.com.
The detailed program for 2026 will be published before the festival. The structure follows the proven key points of previous years.
