Traditional village Kirchweih in Lower Franconia's Oerlenbach
The Oerlenbach Kirchweih, organized by TSV Oerlenbach, is a fixture on the event calendar of the municipality, which has around 4,500 inhabitants, in the Lower Franconian district of Bad Kissingen. Like many Kerwa festivals in Bavaria, it preserves a tradition passed down through generations, where club life, sociability, and customs are closely intertwined.
The Kirchweih thrives on the commitment of TSV members and neighboring clubs. A festival tent or clubhouse becomes the stage for cozy hours with hearty Franconian cuisine, freshly tapped regional beer, and music. Typical for Lower Franconian Kirchweihen are grilled sausages from a charcoal grill, Schäufele (pork shoulder), homemade salads, and coffee and cake in the afternoon.
On the same weekend, the traditional Backhausfest (baking house festival) of FCSH Ebenhausen takes place in the neighboring district of Ebenhausen. Those who visit both locations get a vivid impression of how closely the village communities in the Oerlenbach region stick together.
Oerlenbach is located just a few kilometers south of Bad Kissingen, on the edge of the Bavarian Rhön. The municipality benefits from its proximity to the state spa and is a quiet base for hikes and bike tours along the Franconian Saale river.
The 2026 edition of the Oerlenbacher Kerwa falls on the second weekend of October. TSV Oerlenbach opens its club grounds to the residents of the Bad Kissingen district and guests from the region. Those who want to experience the full program can combine their visit with the Backhausfest in Ebenhausen, which takes place concurrently on both days.
As with all village Kirchweihen in Franconia, the event thrives on direct interaction: club members serve guests, neighbors meet, and younger generations actively learn about the customs.
The detailed hourly program will be announced shortly by TSV Oerlenbach. Typically, there's a cozy festival atmosphere on Saturday evening with live music or a DJ, and a Frühschoppen (morning pint) on Sunday.
Free admission. Food and drinks at fair club prices.
By car: A 71 Erfurt–Schweinfurt, Oerlenbach exit. By train: Oerlenbach station on the Bad Kissingen–Schweinfurt line.
Usually free entry to the festival grounds, prices on site.
