Kirchweih Höchstadt im Engelgarten

Kirchweih on the Banks of the Aisch

The Höchstadter Kirchweih is one of the most traditional folk festivals in Middle Franconia. It takes place annually on the Sunday after the feast of the Apostles Peter and Paul (June 29) in the Engelgarten – an idyllic park with old trees on the banks of the Aisch in Höchstadt a.d.Aisch in the Erlangen-Höchstadt district, Free State of Bavaria.

Marquee, Rides, and Live Music

The Engelgarten, with its old trees, offers a unique festival atmosphere. There are rides, food and drink stalls, and a large marquee that alternates annually between the two Höchstadt breweries. Live music is played on the stage every day – from folk music to rock and pop, with free admission.

Genuine Franconian Kirchweih Customs

The Kirchweih thrives on its customs: the erection of the Kerwabaum with all preparations, the »Kerwa ausgraben« (digging up the Kirchweih), singing the »Kerwas Liedli« (Kirchweih songs), the »Raustanzen« (a traditional dance), and finally the »Kerwa eingraben« (burying the Kirchweih). These traditions are maintained by the local heritage and beautification association and Kirchweih enthusiasts.

Family Day and Program

A highlight is the Family Day (Tuesday) with discounted rides, senior citizen activities, and a children's program. The Kirchweih in the Engelgarten is an integral part of the Höchstadt festival calendar and contributes significantly to the cultural identity of the town in the Aischgrund region.
