Franconian Kirchweih around All Saints' Day
Diebach's Kirchweih is a prime example of the diversity of Franconian Kirwa traditions. While many Kirchweihen in Middle Franconia take place in spring or summer, Diebach traditionally celebrates its Kirwa around All Saints' Day – a date that coincides with the Catholic feast day, lending the festival a special character. In 2026, November 1st falls on a Sunday, so the Kirwa begins on Saturday, October 31st, and ends on Sunday, November 1st.
A Franconian Kirwa is more than just a patron saint's festival: it's a village immersion festival, a social meeting place, and a traditional event all rolled into one. Young men and women – the "Kirwaboum" and "Kirwamadla" – organize the festival, decorate the Kirwabaum (festival tree), and perform traditional dances. The festival takes place in the village inn or a tent, with beer, Franconian specialties (Schäuferla, Bratwürste, Krautsalat), and dance music.
Diebach is a municipality in the Ansbach district with just under 1,200 inhabitants, located between Rothenburg ob der Tauber and Feuchtwangen. The hilly landscape, the small farming villages, and the proximity to Franconia's tourism hotspots characterize the region. Here, as in most villages in Middle Franconia, the Kirwa is the most important social highlight of the year – a celebration where the village community comes together.
Anyone traveling to Franconia in autumn 2026 can combine a visit to the Diebach Kirwa with the All Saints' Day weekend. Rothenburg ob der Tauber is just a few kilometers away and is one of Germany's most visited medieval towns. The combination of a tourist attraction and an authentic village festival makes the stay particularly appealing.
The Diebach Kirwa 2026 falls on the weekend around All Saints' Day: Saturday, October 31st, and Sunday, November 1st (a public holiday in Bavaria). The festival follows the classic Franconian Kirwa structure: raising of the Kirwabaum on Saturday, a festive mass for All Saints' Day on Sunday morning, followed by a convivial Frühschoppen (morning pint), and in the afternoon, the traditional Kirwa dances by the young men and women, with a festive evening of music in the inn or tent.
Admission, like at any Kirwa, is free. Food and drinks are served at usual village prices with Franconian beers and regional specialties.
The exact daily program will be announced in due course by the local Kirwa association and the municipality of Diebach in the event calendar (diebach.de). Proven schedule of a Franconian Kirwa:
