Carnival parade of the Kirchberger Karnevals Gemeinschaft (KKG) through the Hunsrück town on Carnival Saturday
The Kirchberger Faschingsumzug is the festive highlight of the Hunsrück town of Kirchberg and is organised by the Kirchberger Karnevals Gemeinschaft (KKG). With the rallying cry "Kirchberg Helau!", the town celebrates its grand parade annually on Carnival Saturday.
In 2026, the parade starts on Saturday, February 14th, at 2:00 PM and leads through the historic town centre of the Hunsrück town. The KKG's grand gala session takes place the evening before; on Carnival Sunday, the children's carnival concludes the carnival days in Kirchberg. The neighbouring Kerbricher-Fassenachts-Verein also participates in the festive proceedings.
The Kirchberger Faschingsumzug is the central carnival event in the Hunsrück town of Kirchberg. It is organised by the Kirchberger Karnevals Gemeinschaft (KKG), which has been preserving the tradition of the "fifth season" in the Kirchberg municipality for decades.
Kirchberg is an old Hunsrück town with a rich history; its town charter dates back to the 14th century. The compact old town with its historic half-timbered houses forms a picturesque backdrop for the annual carnival parade, which traditionally takes place on Carnival Saturday – a special feature, as many other parades are scheduled for Sunday or Rose Monday.
In 2026, the parade will set off on Saturday, February 14th, at 2:00 PM and proceed through Kirchberg's town centre. Floats from local clubs, schools, and kindergartens, dance troupes from the KKG, as well as music bands and friendly carnival clubs from all over the Hunsrück will participate. The audience lining both sides of the route celebrates along with the rallying cry "Kirchberg Helau!".
Carnival week in Kirchberg is more extensive than just the parade. The Seniorenkarneval (Seniors' Carnival) takes place on the Sunday before the parade (February 8th, 2026), a traditional event specifically for the older generation. On Friday, February 13th, the KKG celebrates its grand Prunksitzung (Gala Session) with jesters, dance troupes, and musical performances. On Carnival Sunday, February 15th, the Kinderkarneval (Children's Carnival) concludes the festive days, aimed specifically at the youngest revellers.
The neighbouring Kerbricher-Fassenachts-Verein from the district of Kerbrich also participates in the carnival festivities and organises its own events, complementing each other. The carnival culture in Kirchberg is thus a vibrant example of the diverse customs in the Hunsrück, influenced by Rhenish, Hessian, and Moselle traditions.
On Carnival Saturday, February 14th, 2026, the Kirchberger Faschingsumzug will set off punctually at 2:00 PM through the Hunsrück town centre. Organised by the Kirchberger Karnevals Gemeinschaft (KKG), the parade with floats, dance troupes, music bands, and friendly clubs from all over the Hunsrück will wind its way through the picturesque old town. With the rallying cry "Kirchberg Helau!", the audience celebrates along. The parade is framed by the Gala Session on the eve (13.02.) and the Children's Carnival on Sunday (15.02.).
The 2026 edition of the Kirchberger Faschingsumzug continues the long-standing tradition of the KKG. With numerous floats, dance troupes, music bands, and friendly carnival clubs from all over the Hunsrück, the parade promises to be another colourful and exuberant event in the Hunsrück town.
Kirchberg's historic old town with its half-timbered houses provides the perfect backdrop. Sweets and 'Strüssjer' (small bouquets) fly into the cheering crowd. As part of Carnival week, the KKG also offers the Seniors' Carnival (08.02.), the Gala Session (13.02.), and the Children's Carnival (15.02.) – a comprehensive programme for all generations.
