When the whole city center becomes a beer garden
The Altstadtfest Erding is one of the highlights of the Erding summer. On the first Friday and Saturday in July, the entire historic city center transforms into a giant beer garden. The landlords of the city center establishments move stages and benches outdoors, and the public strolls through the old town alleys with beer, delicacies, and music.
There is live music of various kinds on five stages: Latin American sounds, rock and pop, as well as traditional Bavarian music. A DJ also spins records at Kleiner Platz. Various stallholders offer culinary specialties – the festival is a mix of a city festival, beer garden, and open-air concert.
On both days, a chain carousel and a children's carousel spin their rounds on Schrannenplatz. On Friday morning, the city also organizes "Fischer's Fröhlicher Tag" for primary school children – a legacy of the Fischer couple who founded it.
Erding is the district town of the Erding district in the state of Bavaria, located north of Munich. The well-preserved old town with Schönem Turm and Schrannenplatz forms the atmospheric backdrop for the festival, which is one of the established summer city festivals for the region.
