Patronal Festival in the Spessart
The St. Bartholomew's Kirchweih is one of the central festivals in Frammersbach, a market town in the Main-Spessart district (Lower Franconia, Bavaria). It is celebrated in honor of the Apostle Bartholomew, whose feast day is on August 24th in the Catholic calendar. Like many Lower Franconian Kirchweihen, the Frammersbacher Kirb extends over several days around the patronal weekend.
Frammersbach – Town of the "Frammersbach Carters"
Frammersbach (around 4,700 inhabitants) is historically known for its carter tradition: in the Middle Ages and early modern period, Frammersbach was an important hub in European long-distance trade. This history shapes the community's self-understanding to this day – the Kirb is also an anchor of identity that makes the connection between past and present visible.
Organizers and Tradition
Frammersbach Marketing eG coordinates the festival in close cooperation with local associations. Festival beer, bratwurst, Schäufele (pork shoulder), and sweet specialties – Frammersbach hosts and bakers provide what makes a Spessart Kirchweih special. Live music plays in the festival tent on several evenings.
