Kinder- und Dorffest Kaaks

Village Festival with Community Tradition

The Kinder- und Dorffest Kaaks is the annual summer highlight festival of the marsh community of Kaaks in the Steinburg district. The organiser is the voluntary Kinderfest-Komitee Kaaks (Children's Festival Committee Kaaks), which has been organising the festival in proven tradition for many years. The committee also organises the annual general meeting (most recently on February 26, 2026) for the festival's planning.

Programme

The festival typically comprises two components:

• Bicycle Rally: Prior to the actual festival, a bicycle rally takes place through the village and the surrounding marsh roads – a popular club classic.
• Children's and Village Festival: The main event with games for all age groups, competitions, and socialising at the sports field.

At the main festival, Kaaks children compete against each other in their respective age groups. Games, competitions, and skill-based tasks characterise the afternoon. For the adults, there are stalls from local clubs, food, drinks, and social interaction.

Club Structure and Tradition

The Children's Festival Committee has been organising the festival, the bicycle rally, and the autumn lantern parade for many years – three dates firmly anchored in the Kaaks children's annual calendar. The voluntary commitment of the committee members reflects the strong club structure of the community.

Region: Steinburg District

Kaaks is a small marsh community in the Steinburg district in southern Schleswig-Holstein. The municipality belongs to the Itzehoe-Land office and is one of the 20 rural municipalities in the office. Its location in the vast marsh landscape shapes the village character – paths, the sports field, and the village centre form the heart of the community.
