Colourful family festival with a parade on the fire department grounds
The Kattendorf Children and Youth Support Association (short KiJuKa) has been organizing its traditional children's festival as a fixed date in the summer calendar of the community for years. The festival is listed in the official village calendar 2026 of the Kattendorf municipality — a clear commitment from the municipality in the Segeberg district to its club work for children and young people.
The classic start is a colourful festive parade through Kattendorf. Families follow the procession, streets are closed for the event, and in the end, everything culminates on the fire department grounds — where the actual festival programme begins. In the past, the association has also engaged friendly North German music groups like AHOY Hamburg for the parade.
A typical village children's festival awaits visitors on the festival grounds with games, small attractions, food, and many hands-on activities for children. KiJuKa traditionally focuses on a lovingly prepared programme put together by parents, grandparents, and dedicated club members.
Kattendorf is located in the heart of Schleswig-Holstein, in the Segeberg district, and is one of the smaller municipalities in the state. It is precisely this size that makes the charm of the children's festival: those who come here experience real club life, personal encounters, and an atmosphere where everyone greets everyone. The KiJuKa Children's Festival is therefore much more than an event for the little ones — it is a showcase of village community in the northern Hamburg metropolitan region.
The municipality of Kattendorf has included the KiJuKa Children's Festival 2026 in its official event calendar for Saturday, June 6, 2026 (Village Calendar Rev. 5, as of May 2026). This confirms the 2026 edition.
As in previous years, the festival begins with a parade through the village and culminates on the festival grounds at the fire department. Specific times and the complete 2026 programme are traditionally communicated by the association shortly before the event via its Facebook page.
The exact programme will be announced by KiJuKa Kattendorf.
The detailed 2026 programme had not yet been published by KiJuKa Kattendorf at the time of editorial deadline. Usual schedule of past editions:
