Homeland festival of the Choralle association on the Kirchberg in Berg in the Southern Palatinate
The Kichbergfest is one of those small village festivals, supported by associations, that form the backbone of cultural life in the Southern Palatinate. The Choralle association, a singing and social club from Berg, organizes the festival on the Kirchberg independently. For two days, the square above the village church is a meeting point for the entire village community.
The gastronomic offer follows the Southern Palatinate tradition: Saumagen (pig's stomach stuffed with pork, bread, and spices), Bratwurst (fried sausage), Leberknödel (liver dumplings), Sauerkraut (fermented cabbage), French fries, Flammkuchen (a type of flatbread), and desserts from the voluntary association's offerings. Palatinate wine from surrounding vintners, Pilsner beer on tap, and Schorle (wine mixed with sparkling water) are available at the bar. The atmosphere on the Kirchberg is familial: long tables, simple seating, communal singing, and musical contributions from local associations.
Berg is a small Palatinate border municipality with just under 1500 inhabitants, nestled between the Bienwald forest and the Rhine floodplain. Its proximity to Alsace shapes its cultural life; many festival visitors come from neighboring communities on both sides of the border. The Kirchberg offers a clear view over the plain and is worth a visit even without the festival.
Choralle is supported at the festival by other associations from Berg – the fire department, sports club, music club, and carnival society are represented with stands or program contributions. This cross-association cooperation is typical for the Southern Palatinate and ensures broad social anchoring of the festival.
The exact program for 2026 will be published by the organizer in the summer. The structure follows the proven key points of previous years: opening on Saturday evening with a musical prelude, morning pint and family program on Sunday, and winding down on Sunday evening.
The complete program will be published in the event calendar of the municipality of Berg (berg-pfalz.de).
