One of Northern Germany's largest classic car meetups on Labour Day
The Braunschweiger Oldtimertreffen dates back to 1983, making it one of the oldest events of its kind in Northern Germany. The organizer is the Braunschweiger Automobil- und Touring-Club (BATC e.V.), a long-standing member club of the ADAC. The volunteer organizers – passionate classic car enthusiasts – have developed the meetup into a fixture on the Lower Saxony event calendar over the decades. With 1,250 vehicles and 10,000 visitors, it is now one of the largest regular classic car events in Northern Germany.
The meetup traditionally takes place on Labour Day, May 1st. On this public holiday, the municipal exhibition grounds transform into an open stage for automotive history. On the large open spaces, visitors can discover vehicles from all eras – from elegant pre-war cars, German post-war economic miracle classics, British sports cars, Italian beauties, and American land yachts to GDR classics like Trabant and Wartburg. Motorcycles, trucks, and tractors are also represented.
What makes the Braunschweiger Oldtimertreffen special is the direct interaction between vehicle owners and the interested public. Most collectors are happy to stand by their vehicles, explain their car's history, answer questions, and share anecdotes. For technology fans and history buffs, this is a valuable opportunity to learn firsthand. The market for spare parts, accessories, and classic car literature is also an important part of the meetup.
In addition to the vehicle exhibition, the meetup offers a supporting program with live music, food stalls, and catering. Food trucks and snack stands provide refreshments, and coffee specialties and cakes round off the offerings. The event is explicitly family-friendly – children under 12 have free admission.
The 43rd edition in 2026 continues the tradition that began in 1983, bringing together collectors, enthusiasts, and families at the exhibition grounds. Direct exchange with vehicle owners and a well-stocked spare parts market are the hallmarks of the meetup.
