Kerwe 2026 in Weltersbach – traditional four-day Palatinate Kirchweih in the Westrich district of the Bruchmühlbach-Miesau municipality in early August.
The Kerwe Weltersbach is the traditional Kirchweih (church consecration festival) of the Weltersbach district in the municipality of Bruchmühlbach-Miesau in the Kaiserslautern district. From August 7th to 10th, 2026, the Westrich village celebrates its four-day Kerwe – a central date in the annual calendar and the social highlight of the community.
Weltersbach is located in the Westrich landscape between Bruchmühlbach, Landstuhl, and the Saarland border. Like many villages in the region, Weltersbach maintains its communal identity through active club life, with the annual Kerwe being the social highlight.
The Weltersbach Kerwe is celebrated over four days, from Friday to Monday. Opening with a keg tapping ceremony on Friday evening, dance evenings on the weekend with live music or a DJ, Frühschoppen (morning pint) on Sunday morning with brass music, a Kerwe parade on Sunday afternoon, and Family Day on Monday with reduced prices and the Kerwe burial on Monday evening.
As in every Palatinate village, the Kerweborsch – unmarried young men of the village – and the Kerweparrer (Kerwe priest) with his satirical and humorous Kerwerede (Kerwe speech) shape the festival events. The Kerwestrauß (Kerwe bouquet) is erected on the opening day and symbolically burned on Monday evening during the Kerwe burial.
A festival tent, beer benches, and a stage are set up on the village festival grounds. The local clubs – the sports club, fire department, and singing club – provide the catering. The menu features Palatinate classics: Saumagen (stuffed pig's stomach), Bratwurst (fried sausage), Leberknödel (liver dumplings), Schwenkbraten (grilled pork neck), fries, and Schmalzgebäck (lard pastry). Draft beer and Palatinate wine accompany the festival weekend.
For the residents of Weltersbach, the Kerwe is the most important social event of the year. Former residents return, family reunions are planned around the weekend, and the festival activities contribute significantly to the clubs' treasuries.
