One of Frankenthal's most popular suburban Kerwen with a parade and fun run
The Kerwe Studernheim is one of Frankenthal's most popular suburban Kerwen. Traditionally, it is celebrated on the last weekend of September — from September 25 to 28, 2026, is expected. Three days of Palatinate Kerwe tradition with a Kerwe parade, Kerwe fun run, ecumenical Kerwe church service, festival tent catering, and live music. The neighbourhood festival brings together residents and guests from all over the Frankenthal urban area.
Studernheim is known as a convivial district of Frankenthal, and its Kerwe reflects the vibrant local club scene.
The Kerwe — Kirchweih (church consecration festival) — has a long tradition in the Palatinate region. Originally a religious patronal festival, it has evolved over the centuries into a four-day folk festival that marks a fixed date for every Palatinate neighbourhood. In Studernheim, the Kerwe is celebrated with particular dedication — as the highlight of the neighbourhood's year and an opportunity to strengthen the community.
Studernheim is one of Frankenthal's liveliest districts. With an active club life, close-knit neighbourhood, and a strong sense of community, the Kerwe here is more than just an event — it is a source of identity. Residents of all generations meet at the festival grounds, new neighbours are integrated, and old acquaintances are maintained.
The event spans four days: Friday opening with live music, Saturday main programme with catering and performances, Sunday with an ecumenical church service and Kerwe parade, Monday with a morning pint and the Kerwe fun run. The festival tent is open throughout the weekend, with carousels and game stalls surrounding the festival grounds.
The Kerwe parade on Sunday is the visual highlight. Floats with local themes, walking groups, dance groups, brass bands — all parade through the streets of Studernheim. The floats are built over months of club work.
The Kerwe fun run on Monday is the sporting component. Amateur athletes, club teams, and families run the course through Studernheim, finishing at the festival grounds where the winners are honoured.
The religious core of the Kerwe is preserved through an ecumenical church service. Catholic and Protestant congregations celebrate together — a sign of interdenominational understanding and the importance of the Kerwe as a neighbourhood festival for all residents.
The festival tent is the heart of the Kerwe. Bratwurst, steaks, fries, cakes — classic Palatinate festival foods, along with Palatinate wine and draft beer. Live bands and DJs provide the atmosphere. The tent is traditionally packed on weekend evenings.
