Traditional Palatinate Kirchweih on the Kerweplatz Oberdorf
The Kerwe (Kirchweih) is the most important village festival of the year in the Palatinate. The Kerwe Lustadt follows the traditional Palatinate order of events with the Kerwerede by the Kerweparrer (Kerwe pastor), barrel tapping, festival tent operation, Frühschoppen on Sunday, and Kerwetanz. This structure of customs has been passed down through generations and is carefully maintained by the clubs in Lustadt.
The Kerweplatz in Oberdorf is the traditional festival grounds for the Lustadt Kerwe. Here you will find the festival tent, the amusement rides, and the club stands. The compact layout of the grounds allows for short distances between the carousel, shooting gallery, and festival tent; family-friendliness is a central feature of the festival.
The Lustadt clubs are responsible for the catering: Lyra choirs, Liederkranz, sports club, fire brigade, Karnevalverein Lustavia, and others. Saumagen (stuffed pig's stomach), Bratwurst (fried sausage), Leberknödel (liver dumplings), Sauerkraut, fries, and desserts complement the drinks offered, including Palatinate wine from local vintners, draft beer, and Schorle (wine mixed with sparkling water).
Lustadt is a southern Palatinate twin municipality of Niederlustadt and Oberlustadt with a total of around 3500 inhabitants. The Lingenfeld collective municipality unites several municipalities in the southern Vorderpfalz (Upper Palatinate) between Speyer and Germersheim. The Kerwe Lustadt attracts visitors from the entire collective municipality and beyond.
The exact program for 2026 will be published by the local municipality of Lustadt in the summer. The structure will follow the proven key points of previous years: Opening on Friday evening with barrel tapping and Kerwerede, family afternoon and Kerwetanz on Saturday, Frühschoppen and festival conclusion on Sunday.
The full program will be published at lustadt.de.
