District of Oppau

Oppau is one of the northern districts of Ludwigshafen and is located on the Rhine. With its own town center, old industrial culture (nitrogen works / BASF), and a community-based club life, Oppau has retained its own character. The annual Kerwe, alongside the spring event, is its most important own festival tradition.

Festival grounds at the LIDL car park

The Kerwe grounds are located in the car park of the LIDL supermarket on Kurt-Schumacher-Straße – a centrally located area with the necessary space and infrastructure. Showmen set up rides, a festival tent, and food stalls here.

Clubs as a supporting pillar

The Kerwe is traditionally co-organized by the Oppau clubs – with their own stands, catering, program items, and sometimes their own performances. The voluntary commitment of the clubs gives the Kerwe its district-specific character and distinguishes it from pure showman fairs.

Four festival days in mid-August

The Kerwe runs from Thursday, August 14th, to Sunday, August 17th, 2026, with daily festival operations. Opening on Thursday evening, main festival days on the weekend, family program, and closing on Sunday.

Embedded in the Kerwe calendar

The Oppauer Kerwe coincides with the Mundenheimer Gockelskerwe in mid-August. Both districts celebrate at the same time, thus contributing to the dense program of Ludwigshafen's summer Kerwen. Edigheim, Oggersheim, Friesenheim, Ruchheim, Maudach, and Rheingönheim follow later.
