Traditional Kirchweih on the first weekend of September in the Großwinternheim district of Ingelheim
The Kerb Großwinternheim takes place every year on the first weekend of September and is one of the first Kirchweih festivals of late summer in Ingelheim am Rhein. The Großwinternheim district is located in the north of the city, nestled between vineyards and the Rhenish-Hessian hills.
The setting for the Kerb is the historic village center around the parish church. Festival tents, stalls, and small stages are set up here. The district's clubs – sports clubs, carnival society, fire department, and local heritage society – participate jointly in organizing the event and shape the familiar, village character of the festival.
The focus of the catering is the wine from Großwinternheim and Ingelheim vintners, which has been cultivated here for centuries on the sunny slopes. It is served with Rhenish-Hessian specialties: Spundekäs, Handkäs mit Musik, Bratwurst, Flammkuchen, and grilled steaks. Sweet stalls, fries, and drink stands complete the offering.
The stage program includes live bands, dance music, and club performances. Traditional highlights include the tapping of the first beer keg to open the festival on Friday evening, the convivial festival evening on Saturday, and Family Day on Sunday with a Kerb parade, morning pint (Frühschoppen), and activities for children. The Kerb Großwinternheim thus preserves the character of an authentic Rhenish-Hessian village festival, which simultaneously attracts guests from the entire Ingelheim area.
The 2026 edition continues the festival's long-standing tradition. Opening on Saturday evening with a beer keg tapping and live music, followed by Family Day on Sunday with Frühschoppen, a Kerb parade, and a program for children. Catering provided by the district's clubs, with a focus on wine from Großwinternheim and Ingelheim vintners.
The exact program for 2026 will be published by the organizer in the spring and summer. The structure will follow the proven cornerstones of previous years.
