Carnival parade on Weiberfastnacht through the Oberbreisig district of Bad Breisig
The Oberbreisig Carnival Parade holds a special place in the Rhenish Carnival events of the Ahrweiler district because it takes place on Weiberfastnacht, thus opening the grand series of Carnival parades in the district. While in other places on this Thursday, the storming of town halls by the "Möhnen" (carnival women) is traditionally the focus, in Oberbreisig, the first major parade of the season already winds through the streets.
Assembly is at 2:30 PM. The procession consists of floats from local carnival clubs, costumed walking groups, dance troupes, music bands, and schools. Elaborately designed themed floats humorously and satirically address local, regional, and national topics. The floats are accompanied by members who throw sweets, small gifts, and bouquets into the cheering crowd.
Oberbreisig is located above Bad Breisig on a slope by the Rhine and forms a distinct district with a lively club scene. The Carnival Society has been preserving this tradition for decades, ensuring that its Weiberfastnacht parade is a fixed date in the region's event calendar. The route leads through the main streets of the district.
The Oberbreisig parade is part of a dense Carnival program in the Ahrweiler district. From Weiberfastnacht to Shrove Tuesday, jesters parade through the streets in Sinzig, Remagen, Bad Neuenahr, Adenau, and many other districts. Those who want to experience the complete Carnival program in the Ahrweiler district should start in Oberbreisig.
The Oberbreisig Carnival Parade is designed to be family-friendly. Children with bags and buckets stand by the roadside, catching "Kamelle" (sweets). Restaurants and clubhouses along the route open their doors to the revelers, and afterwards, the Carnival party takes place in the halls of the Carnival Society.
The exact program for 2026 will be published by the organizer in the spring. The structure will follow the proven key points of previous years:
Storming of the town hall annex by the "Möhnen", traditional start of Weiberfastnacht. Arrival of participating clubs and setup of floats.
Welcome of float builders by the Carnival Society, handover of starting numbers, assembly in the designated order.
Opening of the parade by the parade leader, start of movement through the Oberbreisig district.
Parade ends at the final point, return of floats to clubhouses, start of Carnival parties in the halls.
Carnival parties with live music and DJ sets in local restaurants and clubhouses. Continuation of the festive activities into the night.
Detailed 2026 program will be published shortly before the date on the websites of the local carnival clubs.
