The Season's Kick-off

In the Cochem-Zell district, the parade season traditionally begins with the Masburg carnival parade. While the Rhenish strongholds celebrate the media highlight on Rose Monday, Masburg, as a small Eifel village, opens the parade season days beforehand, thus marking the start of several weeks of intensive carnival activities in the region.

Evening Parade with Light Effects

The start time of 6:33 PM is a special feature. Late afternoon or early evening means the parade takes place at dusk or already in darkness. The floats are equipped with fairy lights, spotlights, and illuminated structures, torchbearers accompany the procession, and the entire scenario resembles a torchlight procession with a carnival character.

Floats and Walking Groups

Carnival clubs, fire departments, sports clubs, and neighborhoods participate in the preparations. The floats are built over weeks independently, often with satirical, local political, or humorous themes. Walking groups appear in uniform costumes, and music bands provide the right sound. Chants of "Helau" and carnival music echo through the dusky village.

After the Parade

After the parade, the festive procession moves to the club house, the inn, or under a festival tent. Celebrations continue with live music, a DJ, or carnival hits until late into the night. Catering with beer, wine, mulled wine, doughnuts, and hearty snacks is guaranteed. The kick-off character ensures a particularly exuberant mood – the next carnival weeks are already waiting.
