Karneval Weißenthurm – Rosenmontagsumzug

The Karnevalsumzug Weißenthurm is one of the traditional Carnival events in the district of Mayen-Koblenz. Weißenthurm is located on the left bank of the Rhine opposite Neuwied, between Andernach and Koblenz in northern Rhineland-Palatinate. The town has a lively club scene and a distinct Carnival tradition.

The organizer is the Große Karnevals- und Kirmesgesellschaft Weißenthurm, or "KA-KI Weißenthurm" for short, which has shaped the town's Carnival life for generations. Sessions, guards, Funkenmariechen (carnival dancers), and dance groups form the backbone of the season, which begins on the traditional start of the season on November 11th and ends on Ash Wednesday.

The highlight of the season is the Carnival Parade on Carnival Sunday. In 2026, the parade will take place on Sunday, February 15, 2026, through the city center of Weißenthurm. Floats with political and social themes, walking groups in creative costumes, music bands, guards, and clubs from Weißenthurm and the surrounding towns participate in the parade. Abundant Kamelle (sweets) throwing, the traditional "Helau" cheer, and exuberant atmosphere on the sidelines characterize the event.

In the vicinity of the Weißenthurm parade, other Carnival parades in the neighborhood take place, making the Carnival season on the Middle Rhine densely packed: Mülheim-Kärlich, the immediately adjacent municipality, organizes parades on February 12, 2026 (Thursday) and on February 17, 2026 (Shrove Tuesday). Those who spend the weekend around Carnival in the region can visit several of these events.

After the parade, the festivities move to the pubs, clubhouses, and festival halls of Weißenthurm, where Carnival continues to be celebrated until the late evening hours. The Weißenthurm Carnival Parade stands for a lively, volunteer-driven Carnival culture on the Middle Rhine, which differs from the major cathedral cities but is just as intense and authentic.
