Weiberfastnacht Ladies' Session and Carnival Parade on Sunday in the Prümer Land
The Karneval Olzheim highlights two important events in 2026: On Fetten Donnerstag (Fat Thursday), February 12th, the carnival club invites you to the traditional Damensitzung (Ladies' Session) at 7:11 PM – an event where women take over the stage. On Sunday, February 15th, starting at 2:11 PM, the grand carnival parade will wind through the village streets with floats, walking groups, and music bands from the Prümer Land.
Olzheim is located in the Verbandsgemeinde Prüm in the western Eifelkreis Bitburg-Prüm and maintains a distinct carnival tradition, uniting two characteristic Eifel carnival formats with the Ladies' Session and the Sunday parade.
Carnival in the Prümer Land — the western part of the Eifelkreis Bitburg-Prüm — has its own unique character. Geographically close to Belgium and Luxembourg, with deep-rooted Catholic traditions, Fastnacht (carnival) here presents itself as rustic, honest, and deeply embedded in the local culture. Olzheim is one of the region's carnival strongholds.
A special tradition is the Damensitzung (Ladies' Session) on Fetten Donnerstag (Fat Thursday), February 12th, 2026, at 7:11 PM. On this day, when Weiberfastnacht officially opens carnival in many Rhineland strongholds, women take over the stage in Olzheim. The program and introductions are handled by women; men are welcome as guests, but the performance belongs to the ladies. It's a tongue-in-cheek format that humorously subverts gender roles.
On Carnival Sunday, February 15th, starting at 2:11 PM, the grand parade will march through the village streets. Carnival floats from Olzheim and friendly clubs from the Prümer Land will showcase satirically designed floats, dance troupes will present their choreography, and walking groups will display their themed costumes. Music bands from the Eifel will provide the fitting soundtrack.
After the parade, the atmosphere shifts to the festival hall and the village's pubs. Catering, live music, and dancing into the night are part of the carnival finale. The atmosphere is familial and warm, characterized by the typical Eifel blend of local pride and festive joy.
Speeches in Eifel dialect, local political allusions, self-built floats, and close ties with neighboring clubs characterize Karneval Olzheim. It's a down-to-earth, authentic form of Fastnacht.
Karneval Olzheim 2026 features two key events: The Ladies' Session on Fetten Donnerstag (Fat Thursday), February 12th at 7:11 PM, where women dominate the stage in the festival hall, and the traditional carnival parade on Carnival Sunday, February 15th at 2:11 PM, with floats, troupes, and music bands from the Prümer Land. Both events attract carnival enthusiasts from the entire Verbandsgemeinde Prüm.
The combination of the Ladies' Session and the Sunday parade is the signature of Olzheim Carnival. Both formats have their fixed place in the carnival calendar and are organized by the local carnival club with great volunteer commitment.
The exact program for 2026 will be published by the organizer in January. The structure follows the proven key points of previous years:
Detailed program available from the Karnevalsverein Olzheim.
The parade is free. A moderate entrance fee is charged for the Ladies' Session — advance booking recommended via the Karnevalsverein Olzheim.
