Depeche Mode tribute in front of the UNESCO World Heritage Imperial Palace
The Goslar Imperial Palace is one of the largest and best-preserved secular buildings of the 11th century in Europe. Salian and Hohenstaufen emperors held court here, and its monumental architecture attracts visitors from all over the world today. With the open-air concerts on the palace forecourt, Goslar Marketing GmbH combines this historical radiance with contemporary concert culture, creating one of Lower Saxony's most impressive open-air settings.
Forced to Mode has been one of Germany's most prominent tribute bands since the early 2000s. The duo of Frank Knebel and Daniel Mönnich approaches the work of Depeche Mode with great respect for sound aesthetics and stage presence, performing the songs in their own live arrangements without falling into mere imitation. In Goslar, the audience can expect a cross-section of almost four decades of Depeche Mode history, from early synth-pop to the darker soundscapes of more recent albums.
The forecourt of the Imperial Palace offers space for around 2,500 spectators, combining tiered seating with standing room areas. The acoustics are shaped by the massive stone walls of the palace and the open valley towards Goslar's old town. On a clear summer evening, the illuminated facade adds to the visual spectacle, making the concert a visual event.
The opening concert is part of an open-air weekend that continues on Saturday with Santiano. Both evenings can be booked independently and cater to different audiences. Admission is via the central advance booking offices and common ticket portals.
Forced to Mode has established itself in the German live scene as a serious homage that goes far beyond the usual tribute band aesthetic. In Goslar, the duo presents a stage show with its own lighting design and a song catalog spanning the entire spectrum from early singles to stadium anthems from recent tours.
The palace forecourt will be equipped with a large main stage and several service stands. The audience will be spread across seating and standing areas with a direct view of the Imperial Palace facade. As dusk falls, the tour's lighting design will take over the staging of the historic building.
The concert is part of the Kaiserpfalz Open Airs 2026. On Saturday, August 22, the open-air concert with Santiano will follow. Both evenings can be booked separately.
Forced to Mode will communicate a complete setlist detail shortly before the concert. The show typically includes about two hours of playing time with songs from all creative phases of Depeche Mode, supplemented by stage introductions and encores.
