Whitsun weekend jazz on the Domfreihof with Oldtime, Jazz Choir and Big Band
Jazz-Club Trier e.V. is one of the oldest jazz clubs in Rhineland-Palatinate and has shaped Trier's jazz scene for decades. With the Jazzfest am Dom, the club has established an annual open-air format that marks the transition from the spring to the summer jazz season during the Whitsun period. The Domfreihof as a venue combines the acoustics of a city square with the monumental backdrop of the World Heritage ensemble.
Programmatically, the festival focuses on more accessible styles of jazz – Oldtime and Swing, Dixieland, Big Band repertoire, Vocal Jazz, and Choir arrangements. This programming appeals to a broad audience beyond the narrow jazz scene and allows free admission to essential parts of the program, made possible by sponsorship from the City of Trier and private patrons.
Whit Monday has been designed as the "Day of Brass Music" for years and opens the stage for brass bands, music associations, and Big Bands from the region – a bridge between the jazz scene and Trier's music association life.
The 24th edition in 2026 coincides with Trier's 40th World Heritage anniversary and uses the World Heritage backdrop of the Cathedral as a stage background. The exact program will be published by Jazz-Club Trier in the spring; the structure follows the proven cornerstones of previous years.
