Traditional Jägerausmarsch of the Brome Riflemen's Association in the Bromer Busch
The Brome Riflemen's Association (Schützenverein Brome e.V.) is one of the oldest and most active clubs in the Samtgemeinde. In addition to regular sporting competitions, it organizes the Schützenfest, the Jägerausmarsch, and the children's Schützenfest – three events that structure the club's year. Closely linked with the Jägercorps Brome, the preservation of military-style riflemen's rituals is combined with a strong social component.
The Jägerausmarsch is a separate event from the actual Schützenfest. It leads the riflemen into the Bromer Busch for the entire day – an extensive forest and heathland area where the club holds its shooting competitions, morning pint (Frühschoppen), and evening get-together. The march through the forest, the competitions at several shooting ranges, the outdoor catering, and the convivial conclusion make the day an unforgettable experience that few clubs have preserved in this form.
Brome is a historic market town in the north of the Gifhorn district, on the border with Saxony-Anhalt. In the Middle Ages, it was the seat of the Welf dynasty, and Brome Castle is now a landmark and museum. The half-timbered architecture of the town center, the old mill, and the market square characterize the place. Its location in the so-called Bromer Ländchen connects the Wendland region with the Lüneburg Heath.
Preparations for the Jägerausmarsch also include the Alte Gilde Cup Shoot on May 9, 2026, where older members and honorary members test their skills. This smaller, more intimate event is in direct tradition to the Jägerausmarsch and is part of the extended festival year.
The Jägerausmarsch is a separate event organized by the Brome Riflemen's Association, clearly distinct from the actual Schützenfest. Its special character arises from the relocation of club activities to the Bromer Busch for the entire day. Marching, competition, conviviality, and catering in the forest combine to create an authentic experience.
The riflemen assemble in the morning at the club house and march together to the festival grounds in the forest. Shooting ranges are set up there, seating areas are prepared for catering, and the festival tent is erected. Competitions, joint meals, and speeches take place throughout the day. The Jägercorps Brome contributes its own program items.
