2nd edition of the summer festival by the illuminated Irissee β supported by the Irisseeverein
The Irissee in Michendorf is a small natural bathing pond on the outskirts of town, which has been maintained for years by a dedicated club β the Irisseeverein e.V. Volunteers take care of cleanliness, planting, pathways, and infrastructure. In 2025, this work led to a new festival: the Irisseefest, which celebrated its premiere on St. John's Day (June 21). The second edition follows on June 13, 2026.
The festival begins in the late afternoon and extends into the evening hours. String lights are hung, lanterns are set up, and small bonfires are lit along the Irisseeterrasse and the shore. Live music β mostly acoustic and regional β provides the musical backdrop. Food stalls offer grilled dishes, drinks, vegetarian options, and sweet specialties. Visitors can sit by the lake and watch the play of lights on the water.
Michendorf is located in the Potsdam-Mittelmark district, just a few kilometers south of Potsdam. The municipality has around 12,000 inhabitants and consists of several districts with a strong volunteer club scene. The Irissee is one of several bodies of water in the municipality and is one of the most charming local recreation areas in the region.
The Irisseefest exemplifies a growing movement in Brandenburg: small, location-specific summer festivals supported by local clubs that combine tradition, nature, and community. With its second edition in 2026, it will become clear whether the festival will permanently establish itself in the community's calendar.
The Irisseefest begins in the late afternoon and extends into the evening hours. The Irisseeterrasse and the shore path will be decorated with lights, lanterns, and small bonfires. Live music and culinary stalls will characterize the evening.
The festival is intentionally kept small and is entirely focused on club life. An evening in nature, together with the local community.
