Around 100 ceramic artists from ten countries on Schlossplatz
For over four decades, the International Ceramics Days have transformed Oldenburg's Schlossplatz into an open marketplace for ceramic art one August weekend. What began in 1984 as a manageable market has become one of the most significant international ceramic events in Germany today – with an impact far beyond the Lower Saxony university city.
A curated selection of around 100 ceramic artists presents their works directly in front of Oldenburg Castle. The exhibitors are chosen through an application process that ensures high artistic and craftsmanship quality. Both established names and young talents are represented.
Internationality is a hallmark of the festival. In 2026, in addition to German ceramic artists, exhibitors from nine other countries are announced – primarily from Europe, with a few from further afield. This diversity allows visitors to compare very different regional and cultural styles.
Approximately 60,000 people attend the Ceramics Days annually – collectors, art and craft enthusiasts, families, and day-trippers from all over the northwest. Schlossplatz, with its historic facades, provides an impressive backdrop for the displays.
The spectrum ranges from classic functional ceramics (plates, cups, vases) to sculptural works and wall objects, as well as experimental pieces that explore the boundaries between ceramics and free sculpture. Glazing techniques, firing methods, and clay materials are as diverse as the forms.
As in previous years, admission is free. The City of Oldenburg and the organizers see the Ceramics Days as a contribution to cultural education and the visibility of sophisticated crafts.
The 2026 edition continues the festival's proven concept: hand-picked exhibitors, open market character, free admission. The application period for exhibitors closed in early 2026; the final exhibitor list will be published in advance.
The exact program for 2026 will be published by the organizer in early summer. The structure follows the established key points:
Schlossplatz, 26122 Oldenburg.
Saturday, August 1st (10 am–6 pm) and Sunday, August 2nd, 2026 (11 am–6 pm).
