A North German Organ Tradition
St. Peter's Cathedral in Schleswig is the spiritual landmark of the state of Schleswig-Holstein. In the district of Schleswig-Flensburg, in the historic episcopal city of Schleswig, the cathedral has been the center of the region for centuries. With its historic organ—one of the most significant in Northern Germany—it provides the ideal setting for the annual concert series, attracting international organists to the city.
The Program Concept
Every Wednesday evening from July to mid-September, a different organist performs in the cathedral. The range is deliberately broad:
- Classical Organ Literature — Bach, Buxtehude, Reger, French organ school
- Romantic Works — Mendelssohn, Liszt, Saint-Saëns
- Crossover — Organ with trumpet, violin, saxophone, or vocals
- Film and Pop Music — Arrangements from the popular repertoire
- Improvisations on given themes
The Artist Talk
After each concert, the parish invites you for "Orgelwein" (Organ Wine) — a casual artist talk over a glass of wine in the cathedral. Here you can ask questions, get to know the organists, and exchange impressions. This format distinguishes the Organ Summer from many other concert series—it makes it an encounter rather than just a performance.
The Closing Concert
On Sunday, September 13, 2026, at 3 PM, the closing concert takes place—with free admission, open to all who wish to discover the series without an entrance fee. A cathedral tour at 2 PM (€5) offers an additional opportunity to explore the cathedral in its full historical depth.

The Wednesday concerts take place over twelve weeks, each at 7 PM in St. Peter's Cathedral. The concert sequence is curated by the Schleswig parish and features top international organists alongside regional choirmasters.

Getting There
Schleswig is conveniently located between Hamburg and Flensburg—A7 junction Schleswig-Schuby is 5 minutes from the cathedral. Schleswig train station is a 10-minute walk from the cathedral. Parking available in the city center.
Admission
Regular concerts: €11 / reduced €8. Children and students free. Closing concert September 13: free admission. Cathedral tour €5 (one hour before concert start).
Before the Concert
Cathedral tour at 6 PM (Wednesdays). The cathedral opens 30 minutes before the concert begins. Free seating—arrive early for a good view of the organ.
