4th edition of the international athletics meeting on the Marktplatz Heilbronn
The International High Jump Meeting Heilbronn is one of Southern Germany's most spectacular athletics events. Instead of a stadium, the competition takes place directly on the Marktplatz – the jumping facility is situated between the town hall, St. Kilian's Church, and the Marktplatz fountain, with spectators standing immediately nearby. The format has been successful since its premiere in 2023 and has become a firm fixture in the international high jump calendar.
Previous editions have gathered the world's elite in high jump: Mutaz Essa Barshim (Olympic Champion, Qatar), Gianmarco Tamberi (Olympic Champion, Italy), Hamish Kerr (Olympic Champion 2024, New Zealand), and many others. The German elite is regularly represented by Tobias Potye and Marie Laurence Jungfleisch. In 2026, the Marktplatz will once again be the stage for the world's best.
In 2026, Heilbronn will host the finale of the “What Gravity Tour” – a new worldwide high jump series where athletes collect points in various cities. The Heilbronn meeting will decide the overall standings and award additional prize money. The competition is also part of the World Athletics Continental Tour Silver.
On Friday evening, August 28, 2026, the weekend kicks off with the Opening Party in Heilbronn's city center. On Saturday, August 29, youth competitions begin at 11:30 AM (free admission), followed by the main men's competition from 4:15 PM. On Sunday, August 30, the women compete from 2:15 PM. The sports program is accompanied by live music, show acts, and gastronomic stands around the Marktplatz.
The meeting is organized by TSG Heilbronn, the city's traditional sports club, supported by the City of Heilbronn, Sparkasse Heilbronn, and the Schwarz Group. Heilbronn is located in the urban district of Heilbronn on the Neckar River in Baden-Württemberg, about 50 kilometers north of Stuttgart.
The 4th edition in 2026 is the most ambitious yet: With the finale of the What Gravity Tour, the meeting moves into the focus of the international high jump scene. Athletes from over 15 countries are expected at Heilbronn's Marktplatz, including several Olympic champions and world champions.
The competition setup is extraordinary: The facility is located directly between St. Kilian's Church, the town hall, and the market fountain — spectators stand just a few meters from the run-up. The sports program is accompanied by live music, a Marktplatz festival with food stalls, and an Opening Party on Friday evening.
The final start list will be published in early August 2026. Known from previous editions: Mutaz Essa Barshim (QAT), Gianmarco Tamberi (ITA), Hamish Kerr (NZL), Tobias Potye (GER), and Marie Laurence Jungfleisch (GER).
