About International Agate Exchange

The International Agate Exchange Niederwörresbach is one of the most important specialist fairs for agates, minerals, fossils, and gemstones in the Naheland region. In its 25th edition, the exchange brings together collectors, dealers, scientists, and enthusiasts from across Europe and beyond in the multi-purpose and large sports hall of the small village of Niederwörresbach, on the edge of the historic Idar-Oberstein agate region. Around 80 stands will offer agates from all over the world, rare minerals, fossils from Europe's major fossil sites, gemstones, and jewelry. A 'Spießbraten' (roast pork) stand in the festival tent rounds off the weekend with regional gastronomy.

Niederwörresbach in the Agate Region

Niederwörresbach belongs to the Verbandsgemeinde Herrstein-Rhaunen in the Birkenfeld district and is located just a few kilometers from Idar-Oberstein. The entire region is a historic agate area – agate grinding mills by streams and watermills, agate deposits in the surrounding forests, and over 500 years of gemstone processing history shape the area. The Agate Exchange is rooted precisely here: in the immediate vicinity of the source.

25 Years of Specialist Fair

The Niederwörresbach Agate Exchange celebrates its 25th edition in 2026, making it one of the established European specialist fairs. On two floors of the large multi-purpose and sports hall at Mühlenweg 2, exhibitors from Germany, Switzerland, France, Italy, Poland, Brazil, Morocco, Madagascar, and many other countries will offer: polished agate slices, geode halves from Brazil, minerals from classic localities such as Cornwall, Hesse, or the Ore Mountains, fossils from trilobites to Moroccan ammonites, gemstones of all quality grades, and jewelry from the Idar-Oberstein industry.

Admission, Hall, and Festival Tent

The exchange takes place on Saturdays from 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM and on Sundays from 11:00 AM to 5:00 PM. Admission: €5 for adults, children under 14 free. A 'Spießbraten' stand in the festival tent provides culinary catering with a regional specialty. The mix of a serious mineral exchange and a cozy Hunsrück atmosphere makes the event a popular destination for collectors as well as families who want to introduce children to the fascination of minerals.
