City-wide weeks of action under the federal motto "dafür!" (for it!) – Festivals, workshops, and discussions
The Intercultural Week is a nationwide initiative that has been supported annually since 1975 by Christian churches, the Central Council of Muslims, migrant organizations, welfare associations, and municipalities. It traditionally takes place at the end of September and is held under a common motto each year. In 2026, the motto is "dafür!" – a deliberately short, concise call to take a stand in a societal situation where diversity is increasingly under pressure.
While the nationwide Intercultural Week in the narrower sense only lasts for one week, Ludwigshafen has extended the period of action to about six weeks: from the beginning of September to mid-October 2026. This allows clubs, initiatives, schools, and cultural institutions to stagger their events more effectively; an oversupply in a single week is avoided. This extended format is a hallmark of the Ludwigshafen version.
The program typically includes: smaller neighborhood festivals, discussion evenings on topics such as migration, diversity, anti-racism, and participation, film screenings with subsequent discussions, readings, culinary get-togethers, workshops for children and adolescents, concerts, sports activities, open days at clubs with a migration background, ecumenical services with an international focus.
The Integration Office of the City of Ludwigshafen coordinates the series. Clubs, initiatives, schools, churches, mosques, cultural institutions, and all interested organizers can register their events until June 30, 2026. The Integration Office provides support with applications and includes the events in the program overview.
The Intercultural Week does not take place in one central location but extends across the entire city – with a focus on districts with a high proportion of migrants. This makes the decentralized character of Ludwigshafen as a city of migration visible.
Ludwigshafen extends the nationwide Intercultural Week to about six weeks. Organizers include clubs, initiatives, schools, churches, mosques, and cultural institutions. Events take place in various districts – often where the cultural diversity of the city's society is particularly visible.
The complete 2026 program will be published by the Integration Office of the City of Ludwigshafen in the summer. Registration for new events runs until June 30, 2026.
