Over 100 Years of Volksfest Tradition
The Ingolstadt Autumn Volksfest looks back on over 100 years of history. Together with the Spring Volksfest, it forms the second pillar of a biannual folk festival tradition that has shaped the city of Ingolstadt for generations. Both events attract hundreds of thousands of visitors from Ingolstadt, the Eichstätt district, Region 10, and all of Upper Bavaria.
Ten Days of Beer Tent Festivities
From September 25 to October 4, 2026, the Dreizehnerstraße fairground will transform into an open festival mile with large beer tents, showmen's stalls, rides for families and thrill-seekers, and traditional delicacy stands. Over the ten days, family days, classic festival evenings, and special events will alternate.
What Makes a Bavarian Volksfest
As with any classic Bavarian Volksfest, there are central elements that have been established over decades:
- Beer tents from regional breweries (Herrnbräu, Nordbräu, Müllerbräu, etc.) with Maß (liter) beer service and festival beer
- Live bands on the festival tent stages — folk music, Schlager, and cover bands
- Rides from Ferris wheels to roller coasters, haunted houses, bumper cars
- Delicacy stands with pretzels, bratwurst, grilled fish (Steckerlfisch), roast chicken (Hendl), gingerbread hearts
- Shooting galleries, prize stalls, carousels for children
- traditional festival parade often on the opening or closing day
Ingolstadt — A City with a Great Volksfest Culture
Ingolstadt, with around 140,000 inhabitants, is the fifth-largest city in Bavaria, home to the Audi plant, and an important economic center in Region 10. The Volksfest is one of the city's central cultural constants — a meeting place for families, work colleagues, and clubs. The tradition is maintained by the City of Ingolstadt's Cultural Office and is adapted annually to changing focuses (family days, Bavarian evening, traditional costume evening).
The Dreizehnerstraße Fairground
The Dreizehnerstraße fairground in northern Ingolstadt has been the permanent location for the city's folk festivals for decades. Easily accessible by public transport and car, it offers ample space for the large beer tents and the ride mile.
