About Ingelheimer Rotweinfest

The Ingelheimer Rotweinfest is the largest and most traditional wine festival in Rheinhessen and one of the oldest wine festivals in Germany. In 2026, it celebrates an extraordinary anniversary with its 80th edition. From September 26 to October 4, 2026, the festival grounds at An der Burgkirche in Ober-Ingelheim will transform into a showcase for Ingelheim's red wine for nine days. Ingelheim's vintners will present their latest vintages of the famous Burgundy varieties – Spätburgunder (Pinot Noir), Frühburgunder, Portugieser, as well as white wines and sparkling wines. The festival is a declaration of love for the red wine of a region considered the cradle of German Spätburgunder. Hundreds of thousands of visitors flock to Ingelheim over the nine festival days. According to official announcements, admission will be free for the anniversary program.

The Ingelheimer Rotweinfest is a legend. Celebrated since 1947, it is considered the largest wine festival in Rheinhessen and is among the oldest and most renowned wine festivals in Germany. In 2026, it celebrates its 80th edition – an extraordinary anniversary that will be marked from September 26 to October 4, 2026, with a special program and free admission.

Cradle of German Spätburgunder

Ingelheim am Rhein is the home of Ingelheim red wine. Charlemagne himself is said to have promoted the planting of Burgundy varieties on the slopes of the Rhine near the Ingelheim imperial palace. Today, Ingelheim is one of Germany's most important Burgundy growing regions; Ingelheim vintners specialize in Spätburgunder (Pinot Noir), Frühburgunder, and Portugieser. White Burgundy, Riesling, and Sekt are also produced.

Festival Grounds at An der Burgkirche

The venue for the festival is the festival grounds at An der Burgkirche in historic Ober-Ingelheim. The Romanesque Burgkirche (Castle Church) with its 14th-century surrounding wall provides a spectacular backdrop for the festival. Over the nine days, wine stands from Ingelheim vintners, stages for live music, gastronomic stalls, and an amusement area will be set up on the festival grounds.

9 Festival Days

The festival lasts for 9 days – from the last weekend in September to the first weekend in October. This duration allows each vintner to present their own program and gives visitors time to attend the festival multiple times.

Anniversary Edition 2026

For its 80th edition, the city of Ingelheim has announced an anniversary program that includes free admission. The festival will be a grand birthday celebration for Ingelheim red wine.
