Immersive light and video show in the Gothic Minoritenkirche, Bach meets 360° projections
The Minoritenkirche St. Salvator in Regensburg is one of the most important Gothic sacred buildings in Southern Germany, now part of the City Museum. Its high nave and intricate ribbed vaulting offer an extraordinary projection surface – perfect architecture for the 360° light installation INFINITY.
Behind INFINITY is the Swiss artist collective PROJEKTIL, which specializes in large-scale immersive projects. INFINITY is dedicated to the theme of infinity – one of humanity's oldest philosophical, religious, and scientific motifs. Geometric animations, cosmic nebulae, and dissolving vaults combine with music based on works by Johann Sebastian Bach to create a half-hour journey from the micro to the macrocosmic.
The show is offered in two versions:
Both versions last around 30 minutes and are shown alternately throughout the evening.
Visitors lie or sit on provided beanbags and cushions on the church floor – not a classic seating concept, but a relaxed, almost meditative posture. The view is 360°, and every position in the space allows for a unique perspective. The experience is family-friendly (from approx. 4 years old), and photography is permitted without flash.
Regensburg, a UNESCO World Heritage site and one of Europe's most significant Gothic cityscapes, has hosted several immersive art installations in its historic spaces in recent years. INFINITY is the most ambitious project in this series and utilizes the Minoritenkirche for the first time – a format jointly developed by the city, the museum, and Kulturoptimisten.
The world premiere of INFINITY Regensburg opens on November 28, 2025, and runs until February 1, 2026 – a total of around ten weeks during which the Minoritenkirche is transformed daily from 5 PM to 10 PM into an immersive light art hall.
Throughout the evening, the two versions of the show will be presented alternately: INFINITY – Inspiration with spoken texts by philosopher Alan Watts, and INFINITY – Contemplation with image and music only. Each performance lasts approximately 30 minutes. Beanbags and cushions are freely distributed on the church floor, allowing each guest to choose their perspective.
The organizers are Die Kulturoptimisten (The Culture Optimists) led by Julia Köppel, in cooperation with the Swiss artist collective PROJEKTIL, which specializes in large-scale immersive installations.
