Traditional Easter arts and crafts market in the old town center of Alt-GMHütte — April 17 to 19, 2026
The Hüttenmarkt Alt-Georgsmarienhütte is the oldest event in the city's festival calendar — the 41st edition in 2026 confirms its enduring popularity. The organizer is Stadtmarketing Georgsmarienhütte, which organizes the market with volunteer support from local associations.
The 2026 edition runs from Good Friday, April 17, to Easter Sunday, April 19 — the classic Easter weekend. The venue is the historic town center of Alt-Georgsmarienhütte: that part of the present-day city that historically belonged to the original ironworks settlement and still retains the character of a village within the city.
The arts and crafts market brings together vendors from the region and beyond: potters, glass artists, jewelry designers, leather workers, woodworkers, textile artists, painters, ceramicists, and natural cosmetics providers. This clearly distinguishes the Hüttenmarkt from a classic funfair — the focus is on artisanal quality and originality.
Alongside the arts and crafts, food stalls offer regional and international specialties: bratwurst, burgers, crêpes, vegetarian options, sweets, and drinks. Local associations present themselves with their own stalls — cake sales, drinks, information campaigns. This participation of associations gives the market its communal character.
Over three days, the market attracts thousands of visitors to the town center. The atmosphere is familiar and high-quality at the same time — a rare combination. The timing on Easter weekend also offers the opportunity to combine a visit to the market with an Easter outing.
The city of Georgsmarienhütte owes its name to the steelworks founded in 1856. Today, it is a modern cultural city with a rich event calendar: Hüttenmarkt, Stadtfest, Kasinoparkfest, Autokino, and several Schützenfeste shape the annual program. The Hüttenmarkt is the most traditional of these dates.
The program follows the proven structure:
