Spring market with Sunday shopping in the castle town
On the last weekend in March, the city centre of Hückeswagen transforms into a friendly spring village. The traditional Spring Market extends along Bahnhofstraße and Islandstraße and offers everything that garden and balcony enthusiasts need for the new season: flower bulbs, fresh perennials, herbs, garden furniture, decorative planters, and even insect hotels for the nature-friendly garden.
The festival is embedded in a Sunday shopping event: from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m., the shops in Hückeswagen's city centre open their doors and entice with special offers and spring promotions. A grand raffle with five main prizes of 1,000 Euros each in Schlosstaler – the local town currency – is one of the regular highlights.
While you stroll through the market, street musicians and small stages create a relaxed spring atmosphere. The catering completes the festival: fried fish, crêpes, potato pancakes, sausages, and sweet specialities are available at mobile stands, in Hückeswagen's cafés, and in the eateries around the market square.
Hückeswagen is located in the Oberbergischer Kreis in North Rhine-Westphalia, picturesquely situated between the Wupper dams. The historic old town with Hückeswagen Castle and half-timbered houses provides the ideal backdrop for the festival. Those who stay longer can explore the Bever-Talsperren-Rundweg (Bever Dam circular route) or visit the local history museum.
Admission to the Spring Festival is free. The festival is aimed at the whole family: while parents browse the market, children can enjoy small activities, carousels, and candy stalls. The central location and short distances make the visit relaxed.
The 2026 edition invites you to Hückeswagen's city centre on the last Sunday of March. While the shops open parallel to the market, Bahnhofstraße and Islandstraße transform into a promenade with numerous exhibitors and a raffle with Schlosstaler prizes.
Free admission. Consumption on site (stalls, eateries) is paid separately.
By car: A1 exit Wermelskirchen, then B237 towards Hückeswagen. By public transport: Bus 626 or OVAG lines from Remscheid, Wipperfürth, or Wermelskirchen to the centre. Parking available at Schlossplatz and in the city centre.
Sunday, March 29, 2026, 1:00 PM – 6:00 PM. Free admission.
Combine your festival visit with a hike around the Bever-Talsperre or a walk through the historic old town around Hückeswagen Castle.
