24th World Music Festival at Ehrenbreitstein Fortress with concerts, hippie market, and street food
The Horizonte World Music Festival was launched in 2002 by the Förderverein Horizonte (Horizon Association) and Café Hahn and has since developed into one of Germany's most important world music festivals. Ehrenbreitstein Fortress, one of the largest preserved fortresses in Europe, offers a breathtaking backdrop high above the confluence of the Moselle and Rhine rivers as the venue.
The festival motto “Horizonte” is programmatic: musicians from all over the world share the stages, from Africa to Asia and Latin America to Europe. Unlike classical festivals, the musical range is curated: each year, the organizers select around twenty acts that represent the diversity of world music while delivering high-quality live performances.
Confirmed for the 24th edition are, among others: Brazilian pop icon Daniela Mercury, the Brazilian duo Gilsons, the band Orange, the indie project Malaka Hostel, the blues rock legend Walter Trout, the Lulo Reinhardt Latin Swing Project, and the East African band The Zawose Queens.
In addition to the concerts, a huge hippie market with arts and crafts from around the world, jewelry, textiles, incense sticks, and alternative lifestyle products is part of the festival. Street food stalls serve specialties from India, Mexico, Africa, the Mediterranean, and the Caribbean. On Saturday evening, the dome hall of the fortress invites you to the traditional salsa party with DJ and dancing opportunities. Children under six and members of the Förderverein have free admission.
Ehrenbreitstein Fortress can be reached in a few minutes via the cable car from Konrad-Adenauer-Ufer. Those arriving by car can park in the designated parking lots on the fortress plateau. The festival grounds extend over the spacious courtyards and plateaus of the fortress complex and offer breathtaking panoramic views of the Middle Rhine Valley.
The festival opens on Friday at 6 PM and runs on Saturday and Sunday starting at 10 AM. Several stages are spread across the extensive fortress complex, allowing for parallel concerts and enabling visitors to curate their own musical journey.
Between concerts, the hippie market invites you to browse. The street food stalls offer specialties from all continents, and local eateries provide wine, beer, and non-alcoholic beverages.
