Crab specialties, maritime flair, and live music at the Old Harbour
The Hooksiel Krabben Days are a declaration of love for the Granat – as the crab is called on the Frisian coast. Over three days, fresh crabs will be served in all imaginable variations: classic in a roll, as a cocktail, in stew, as a salad, in quiches, and in modern street food creations.
The Hooksiel crab cutter is located directly at the festival site and supplies the specialty stands with fresh goods. The festival thus also serves as a platform for the local fishery, making the value chain from cutter to plate directly visible.
Bands from the region will provide entertainment on the harbour stage on all three festival days. Maritime shanties, cover rock, and Frisian sounds alternate, perfectly matching the harbour atmosphere.
For families, there are hands-on stations, children's programs, and the opportunity to experience crab fishing up close. During guided tours, fishermen explain their work, show the cutters, and let children sort crabs.
The Old Harbour Hooksiel, with its historic houses, cutters, jetties, and proximity to the Wadden Sea (UNESCO World Natural Heritage), is one of the most beautiful festival backdrops on the Frisian coast. Free admission makes the festival a magnet for summer guests.
The 2026 edition combines culinary tradition with maritime festival culture. The festival follows the Hooksiel Herring Days (Pentecost) as the second major harbour festival event of the season, making the Old Harbour Hooksiel a continuous attraction for summer guests throughout the summer.
The exact band program for 2026 will be published by the organiser in the summer.
