Multi-day Volks- und Schützenfest on the Ballisgraben fairground in Stadtoldendorf
The Homby is deeply rooted in the town life of Stadtoldendorf. Over four festival days, the Ballisgraben fairground transforms into a large festival area with a main tent, amusement rides, shooting competitions, and stages. The city parade on Saturday, in which shooting clubs, brass bands, and affiliated clubs participate, is one of the most visible highlights.
On Friday, May 29, the festival begins at 3:00 PM with the official opening. From 9:00 PM, the tent party starts. Saturday, May 30, kicks off at 10:30 AM with the shooting competition. At 2:30 PM, the city parade winds through the town center. From 8:15 PM, the ball with the Hit Radio Show takes place in the festival tent – free admission. Sunday, May 31, features the family program starting at 2:30 PM. On Whit Monday, June 1, the Katervesper at 6:30 PM marks the festive conclusion (12 Euros including Cold Platters and 2 drinks), followed by a grand fireworks display.
Stadtoldendorf is located in the Weserbergland, in the western part of the Holzminden district. With its Ballisgraben fairground, it offers a suitable venue for an event of this magnitude. The Homby is one of the most important spring dates for both the residents of the town and the surrounding villages.
With a clear schedule, well-rehearsed organization, and fixed program blocks, the Homby is an example of a professionally organized traditional folk festival in Lower Saxony.
The complete detailed program for 2026 (shooting classes, parade route, further acts of the Hit Radio Show, family program points) will be published by the organizer. The structure follows the proven key points of previous years as presented here.
