Neighborhood on the Market Square

Only a few kilometers lie between East Frisia and the Netherlands – the regions are closely connected culturally, linguistically, and culinarily. The Hollandmarkt Aurich makes this neighborhood visible. On a summer Sunday, over 30 Dutch exhibitors set up their stalls in the central market square, bringing a piece of the Netherlands to Aurich.

The Dutch Assortment

Culinary delights dominate: freshly baked Stroopwafels, Poffertjes with powdered sugar and butter, Dutch cheese in countless varieties, Vla, licorice, fish specialties (Matjes, shrimp), sweets, and delicacies. Non-food items include: Bloembollen (bulbs for tulips, daffodils, crocuses), Dutch fabrics, fashion, wooden shoes, pottery, and ceramics.

Brass Band as an Atmosphere Maker

A brass band – often from the Dutch border region – creates the right atmosphere. Dutch hits and Dutch classics, sometimes including sing-alongs, alternate. This turns the market day into a small cultural festival with a culinary focus.

Six Hours of Market

The market is open from 12 PM to 6 PM. The timing is well-chosen: families go to church or a café in the morning, meet at the market at noon, and use the afternoon for strolling and shopping. Free admission. A typical East Frisian Sunday with a Dutch accent.
