24th Hoffest of Northern Germany's smallest brewpub in Schaumburger Land
The Meierhöfer family brewery in Vehlen considers itself the smallest brewery in Northern Germany, dedicated to handcrafted beer brewed in limited quantities. The Meierhöfer family has been brewing on-site for over two decades, emphasizing natural ingredients, short supply chains, and unfiltered specialties. Once a year, the brewery opens its courtyard to the public – an event that draws not only locals from Vehlen and Obernkirchen but also guests from all over Schaumburger Land and the Hanover region.
The highlight of the Hoffest is the brewery's four in-house beer varieties: the smooth Helles, a full-bodied Dunkles, the aromatic and malty Bernstein-Weizen, and Sunrise, a light specialty with a distinct character. All varieties are served directly from the storage tank or tap – as fresh as it gets. Those who wish to savor the beers at their leisure can take a seat at the beer tables outdoors or in the brewery courtyard.
The culinary offerings are traditionally prepared by the family and their helpers. Grilled specialties, hearty snacks, coffee, and homemade cake await guests throughout the festival day. A varied children's program ensures that families can also enjoy a relaxed day – an important aspect that clearly distinguishes the Hoffest from a classic beer festival.
Directly next to the brewery grounds stands the historic Vehlen Mill, which opens its doors for the Hoffest. Those interested can take a short tour and inspect the milling machinery. The village of Vehlen, with its half-timbered houses, tranquil surroundings, and location at the foot of the Bückeberge hills, provides the ideal backdrop for a down-to-earth, regionally rooted brewery festival, a tradition in Schaumburger Land for decades.
Starting at 11:00 AM, the brewery courtyard in Vehlen quickly fills up. The Meierhöfer family welcomes guests at the direct tap, where the freshly tapped Helles, Dunkles, Bernstein-Weizen, and Sunrise await tasting. Beer enthusiasts from all over Schaumburger Land gather at the long beer tables, chat, compare flavor notes, and enjoy the peaceful village atmosphere.
The Hoffest continues until the late afternoon and evening. When exactly the taps close traditionally depends on the mood. The historic mill directly next to the brewery invites visits concurrently – an ideal break between tastings.
The 24th Hoffest follows the proven schedule of previous years:
The exact program for 2026 will be published by the brewery shortly before the date on their communication channels and in the local press.
