Eight days of Sauerland Advent magic on Olpe's market square on two Advent weekends
The Historischer Weihnachtsmarkt Olpe is a Sauerland specialty: it doesn't run for a continuous week or month, but takes place over two Advent weekends — in 2026, from November 26 to 29 (1st Advent) and from December 3 to 6 (2nd Advent). Eight festival days, staged in a historical setting on Olpe's market square, organized by the Olpe Business and Advertising Association with support from the City of Olpe.
The market focuses on historical staging: traditional wooden huts, a warm lighting concept, authentic Advent atmosphere — not a modern consumer temple, but deliberately the atmosphere of a small-town Advent market in the Sauerland. The architecture of Olpe's market square, with St. Martinus parish church in the background, provides a special backdrop for the market.
Around 30 participating shops from Olpe and the surrounding area present themselves at the market — from bakers offering traditional Stollen to woodworkers, candlemakers, and jewelers. On the central stage, local artists, music groups (church choirs, brass bands, Sauerland folk music), and jugglers alternate — the stage program is curated daily by the advertising association.
The opening hours are the same on both weekends: Thursdays and Fridays from 2:00 PM to 10:00 PM, Saturdays from 11:00 AM to 10:00 PM, Sundays from 11:00 AM to 7:00 PM. Spreading the event over two weekends makes repeat visits worthwhile — many visitors come on both the first and second Advent.
Olpe is the district town of the Olpe district in North Rhine-Westphalia, located in the southern Sauerland region on the Biggesee lake. With around 25,000 inhabitants, Olpe is the tourist gateway to the Sauerland and a popular excursion destination. The market square with St. Martinus parish church forms the center of the inner city — the Historischer Weihnachtsmarkt has used this backdrop for years and is one of the fixed Advent dates in the Olpe district and beyond.
Olpe's market square becomes the stage for historical Advent atmosphere in two installments: November 26–29 and December 3–6, 2026. Eight festival days with wooden huts, warm light, and Sauerland charm — an Advent market deliberately set against the consumer mainstream, with genuine traditional content.
Both weekends feature the same format: Thursdays and Fridays 2–10 PM, Saturdays 11 AM–10 PM, Sundays 11 AM–7 PM. Around 30 participating shops from the region, a stage with choirs, music associations, jugglers, and local artists.
Note: The detailed stage program will be published by the Olpe Advertising Association in the weeks leading up to the market on weihnachtsmarkt-olpe.de.
