Successor to the Farmers' Market, focusing on regionality and sustainability in Hildesheim's city center
The former Hildesheim Farmers' Market was a classic market format in the city center for many years: regional producers offered fruit, vegetables, sausage, cheese, honey, and other products. The Autumn Fun continues this tradition but reorients it thematically: regionality and sustainability become programmatic guidelines, and the format is staged more as a city experience and less as a pure weekly market.
The exhibitor landscape consistently focuses on producers from the Hildesheim district, the Hildesheim region, and surrounding areas. Farms with their own farm shops, beekeepers, dairies, bakeries, breweries, distilleries, jam manufacturers, mustard producers, honey and syrup producers showcase their autumn and harvest work. Visitors can not only stock up but also learn through conversations how and where the products are made.
Sustainability is not just a marketing promise but is concretely delivered: sustainable packaging, deposit systems, selection of organic and Demeter suppliers, information stands on topics such as seasonality, food waste, farm solidarity economy (Solawi), and sustainable consumption. The Autumn Fun thus also positions itself as a small educational format.
September is the classic harvest time for apples, pumpkins, potatoes, pears, plums, early cabbage varieties, nuts, and the first mushrooms. The stalls present these seasonal products in various forms: fresh produce, preserves and pickles, syrup, juice, purées, and creative processed goods.
From 1 pm to 6 pm, the shops in Hildesheim's city center open for Sunday shopping. Fashion, home goods, drugstore items, books, and other sectors benefit from the influx of visitors from the autumn market, and conversely, the shopping options add an extra dimension to the Autumn Fun.
In mid/late September, Hildesheim's city center is climatically pleasant: still warm September light, cool evenings, autumnal mood. The Autumn Fun leverages this atmosphere and creates an incentive for an outing that combines market, city exploration, culinary discoveries, and shopping.
As with 'Ab in den Frühling!' in April, Hildesheim Marketing GmbH relies on a clear thematic profile for the Autumn Fun, distinguishing the format from classic city festivals and amusement markets.
Exhibitors wishing to participate must register in advance via Hildesheim Marketing GmbH; selection is curated.
