Hettenleidelheim in the Leiningerland

Hettenleidelheim is located in the western part of the Leiningerland, at the transition between Vorderpfalz and the Palatinate Forest. The municipality was historically closely linked to clay mining and has an industrial history tradition documented in the Clay Mining Museum. The Kerwe is one of the most important festivals in the municipality's annual calendar.

Palatinate Kerwe Tradition

In the Palatinate, Kerwen traditionally celebrate the church consecration (Kirchweih), commemorating the dedication of the local church. In Hettenleidelheim, the Kerwe has developed into a multi-day Volksfest that encompasses the entire village community. Clubs, businesses, and the local administration work together to organize the festival.

Connection with the Forest Festival at Birkenschlag

A special feature of the Hettenleidelheim festival calendar is the connection of the Kerwe with the forest festival at Birkenschlag, which is traditionally held on Whit Monday in early summer. Together, these two festivals shape the community experiences of the year and form the festive setting for the meeting of locals and guests from the Leiningerland.

Festival Mile and Catering

During the Kerwe days, the streets of the town center are reserved for the festival. The local clubs set up their stalls and offer Palatinate classics such as Bratwurst, Saumagen, Flammkuchen, and salads. The drinks primarily include Palatinate wines, Schorle (wine mixed with sparkling water), and beer. The festival tent is the musical center, where bands provide dancing and entertainment in the evenings.
