The Herdorfer Kölsch Festival is a comparatively young, but quickly traditional event in the Hellertal town of Herdorf in the Altenkirchen district. The second edition will take place in 2026 – an indication that the concept of Rhenish beer culture, gastronomic diversity, and a music program in northern Rhineland-Palatinate works excellently.
Kölsch in Herdorf? A logical choice
Herdorf is located in the tri-border area of Rhineland-Palatinate / North Rhine-Westphalia / Hesse and is culturally strongly oriented towards Cologne and Bonn. Many commuters work in the greater Cologne area, Carnival follows Rhenish tradition, and Herdorf residents also share the Rhenish preference for the slim, light Kölsch beer. This connection is celebrated with its own festival.
Program and Atmosphere
For a whole day, the Herdorf city center transforms into a festival mile with beer stands from various Kölsch breweries, food trucks, snack stands, and stages for live music. Cover bands, dialect singers, Carnival hits, and party classics are offered – including the odd Cologne anthem. The festival consciously captures the atmosphere of a brewery garden in the open air.
Community project with a town festival character
The Kölsch Festival is organized by clubs, restaurateurs, and businesses together with the town of Herdorf. It complements the already rich event year of the mining town with a contemporary meeting place for young adults, families, and everyone who wants to celebrate the region's lifestyle. The premiere in 2025 showed that the format attracts great interest – this momentum is to be continued with the second edition.
Herdorfer Kölsch Festival — edition 2026
The second edition of the Herdorfer Kölsch Festival will take place on Friday, June 12, 2026. The venue is the Herdorf city center, which will be transformed into a festival mile for the day.
The day typically begins in the late afternoon with the tapping of the first Kölsch keg. Music will be offered on several stages until the late hours of the night. Food stalls, food trucks, and standing tables will structure the festival area and provide ample space for lingering.
Programme Herdorfer Kölsch Festival 2026
The detailed program for 2026 will be announced in spring and early summer via the event page of the town of Herdorf and the ticketing platform eventfrog.de. The structure follows the proven cornerstones of the premiere:
- From late afternoon: Opening and tapping of the first Kölsch keg, welcome by the town of Herdorf
- Early evening: Acoustic sets and cover bands on the central stage, food truck mile open
- Main evening: Party band or DJ, classic Rhenish Carnival and party hits, sing-along songs
- Late evening: Wind-down with an open-air DJ set
Various Kölsch breweries will be represented at stands, complemented by non-alcoholic alternatives and gastronomic offerings with regional specialties.
