Herbstmarkt Uplengen (GSU)

A Market Tradition Since 1984

Since 1984, the Herbstmarkt has been the annual flagship event of the Gemeinschaft der Selbstständigen Uplengen. With this event, local traders combine the classic market idea with a showcase for their location. Over the years, the market has developed into one of the most popular Sunday events in southern East Frisia.

Large Flea Market and Diverse Vendor Stalls

The size of the flea market section is characteristic. Private sellers from the region – and sometimes from the neighboring Dutch municipalities – present collectibles, vintage items, and used goods on long tables. In parallel, vendors from the fashion, household goods, arts and crafts, and regional specialties sectors offer their products.

Catering and Club Participation

Local clubs, restaurateurs, and caterers are responsible for the food and drinks. Baked goods, smoked fish, sausages, potato pancakes, crêpes, and hot beverages are standard gastronomic offerings. The participation of clubs gives the market an additional community character beyond the pure trade format.

The second-to-last Sunday in September has been the fixed market date for years. For 2026, this falls on September 20th. The date is reliably entered in the event calendar of Uplengen and the entire southern East Frisia region and is one of the autumn's main attractions.
