A neighborhood festival with over forty years of history

Geestemünde is one of Bremerhaven's most vibrant districts, defined by its fishing port, trade, and a strong sense of community around Konrad-Adenauer-Platz. This is where the autumn festival has been held since the 1980s: market stalls on the square and along Grashoffstraße, a stage program, information booths, and a Sunday shopping event that combined local festivities with a stroll through the shops.

Two consecutive cancellations

According to reports from the Nordsee-Zeitung and the city of Bremerhaven, the 2025 festival was cancelled after no application or safety plan was submitted to the magistrate. Reasons cited included increased safety requirements (such as permanent impact protection, which would have incurred significant additional costs), growing noise complaints regarding live music, illegal parking in the event area despite warning signs, and a lack of personnel to manage the organization. According to the Nordsee-Zeitung, the festival will not return in 2026. Organizers remain hopeful about hosting the event again in the future, though no date for a return has been set.

Bremerhaven's local culture

Geestemünde owes its name to its location at the mouth of the Geeste river where it meets the Weser; it was historically an independent town before becoming part of Bremerhaven. Beyond the autumn festival, the neighborhood life around Konrad-Adenauer-Platz is also shaped by spring and summer flower festivals.
