District festival on Konrad-Adenauer-Platz – back after a year's break
Geestemünde is one of Bremerhaven's most vibrant districts, characterized by its fishing harbor, trade, and a strong neighborhood life around Konrad-Adenauer-Platz. This is precisely where the Herbstfest takes place – a festival with over forty years of tradition, returning to the central square after a year's break to herald autumn in the state of Bremen.
Market stalls line Konrad-Adenauer-Platz and Grashoffstraße, complemented by a stage program and information booths. The festival is closely linked to the district's commercial life: typically, Geestemünde's shops and specialty stores open from 12 PM to 5 PM for the Sunday shopping event, merging the district festival with a shopping spree. Throughout the year, Konrad-Adenauer-Platz serves as the central stage for the Geestemünde location management's major events.
The Herbstfest is a fixture on Geestemünde's event calendar, alongside the spring and summer Blossom or Heather Blossom festivals held in the same location. Both festivals shape neighborhood life and bring neighbors and guests together. The festival weekend is often accompanied by related events, such as concerts in the nearby Christuskirche. After no Herbstfest was held in 2025, its return in 2026 is eagerly anticipated in the district.
Geestemünde owes its name to its location at the mouth of the Geeste River into the Weser and was historically an independent town before becoming part of Bremerhaven. Those who want to experience the maritime city beyond its major tourist attractions will find an authentic North German district festival at the Herbstfest: families, regular customers of the shops, and visitors from the surrounding area gather for a convivial late summer day – down-to-earth, warm, and firmly anchored in the Bremen region's neighborhood.
On Sunday, September 27, 2026, the Herbstfest Geestemünde returns to Konrad-Adenauer-Platz after a year's break. On the square and in Grashoffstraße, you can expect market stalls, a stage program, and information booths. In parallel, the district's shops will be open for the Sunday shopping event, merging the district festival with a shopping spree. The festival, with over forty years of tradition, is one of Geestemünde's regular neighborhood events.
The Geestemünde location management has organized the Herbstfest for over forty years. The event was canceled in 2025; it returns to Konrad-Adenauer-Platz in 2026. As in previous years, the festival weekend is expected to be accompanied by related events (lantern parade, concert in Christuskirche) – specific dates for 2026 will be announced on geestemuende.de.
Konrad-Adenauer-Platz is located in the center of Bremerhaven-Geestemünde and is easily accessible by bus, train, and bicycle.
Entry to the festival is free.
